DIY > Bypass/Trick the handbrake signal for video in motion (Aftermarket radio)

Submitted by Admin on February 8, 2009 – 1:21 amNo Comment

Aftermarket radio require a connection to the handbrake in order to play video/dvd. So in essence you are not supposed to drive and have the handbrake on to play movies. Which is fair enough, security wise.

Now taking apart the whole console to connect the cable on the back of the radio unit to the handbrake screw is not something exciting.

One easy trick to bypass this, is simply to connect this cable to the antenna connector (It can be wrapped around) on the back of the radio unit, inside the radio compartment. Actually, any Ground connection will work.
It is faster that taking the whole trim apart, and it there is a good chance it will also improve the radio signal, which is usually very weak with aftermarket radio in BMW (Been observed with many brands).

Now I hope nobody will be stupid enough to watch a DVD while driving :-)
I personally put a movie on when parked and waiting for the wife with the son in the car.
